The Year of the Ski

I've Iced Fish with Ski for about 4 years now. He's always done ok but last year whipped up on him and I think he got skunked for the season. During the off season though Ski did something. I think it was a combination of his tough workout schedule combined with an Olympic style diet but this year is Skis year. Nobody knows if its some ancient Chinese secrets or if he sold what was left of his soul to Obama but hes catchin fish!

Today we went to Farish about 45 mins up the road. Farish is one of those get your fish catchin mojo back type of places. You are gonna catch fish, but not always big ones. We got there bright and early about 0630ish. It was a nice day, sunny with a small breeze that soon died out.

Ski's goal for the day was 4 fish before 0715. First order of business Ski had to decide which poles to use. Luckily Ski was like a boy scout or somethin as hes always prepared. I ran out of the house and forgot my whole Ice fishin bucket/poles/lures but Ski had me covered with two extra poles.

Then he had to clean out his "Ice Hole"

Finally down to some business.

Fish on! The first Fish of the day. I tried to get Ski to kiss it for good luck but he said no. Had I not been there to see him catch it and the next three I wouldn't have believed he landed 4 fish by 07:10:22, but I will be the first to say he did it.

Jeff S and Rob D showed up just in time to see this miracle on ice. They got there about 2 fish prior and saw Ski lookin Damn good catchin the next two fish.

Ski landin a monster!

Or not. But we were cathin fish.

Ski Landin another lunker! I only document all this as we all know Ski has had a rough go of it last year. NO these arent photshopped!

The Fishin started out Slow for Jeff S and Rob D.

Jeff S hooked into a big one. A big chunk of Ice or something. False Alarm, no fish this time.

Ski was giving out free pointers to all of us today. "Here use this one" "I caught some on this one" "I've caught fish for money."

Of course Jeff and Rob were hanging on every word Ski said. Jeff brought his Ghetto grill with its non electric start and forgot the magical flame. No worries Rob had some non striking matches...Um...Now what? Ski to the rescue again! He had a magical flame thingy for just such an emergency.

But really I just came along for the wonderful Elk Burgers!

The catch of the day though was Jeff and his "Double" Ignore the heavy breathing from the camera man. He had to run about a 1/4 mile to get this excellent shot!

All total I think Ski had the most until he decided to move holes. I know I caught about 6 or 7, Jeff S caught about 8 or 9, Rob D caught maybe 4 or 5, and Ski was maybe in the double digits at 10 or so.

Next trip we are trying to head out to Twin Lakes up north of Buena Vista!
